Who We Are
St. Patrick's is located in Kennett Square, PA, 30 miles south of Philadelphia and 8 miles northwest of Wilmington, DE in the heart of the Brandywine Valley.   We are a catholic youth organization (CYO) competing in the famous Philadelphia CYO track and field program.

St. Patrick track and field team consists of boys and girls in grades 4 - 8.  The program has three divisions depending on age and grade (Novice, Minor and Cadets).  The team consists mostly of students from St. Patrick School, a small catholic elementary school, but is open to all members of the parish.  The team started in 1997 and has quickly become an exciting activity for the CYO program.  Novice boys and girls consist mainly of 4 and 5th graders (10 and 11 year old).  Minors are in 6 and 7th grade (age 12 - 13), with cadets being in 7th or 8th grade (age 13 - 14).  We also have an informal PeeWee program for younger brothers and sisters who want to come out to the meet and run a 100 or 200 meter sprint.

Practices are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings during the season at Kennett High School.  The track events that we compete in are the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600meters.  Field events consist of shot put (minor and cadets only) and long jump.  There is a 4 x 100meter relay.  Students who have competed  for St. Patricks CYO team now compete for high schools in the WIlmington, DE/Chester County, PA area including, Kennett High, Bishop Shanahan, Salesianum, Padua, and St. Elizebeths.

St. Patrick's track team is coached by Vince Giarrocco.  Vince began competing in CYO track and field in 5th grade running sprints and long jumping.  He later moved to the middle distances and ran competitively for Monsignor Bonner High School, Widener University and Haverford Athletic Club.  His coaching philosophy is for the kids to have fun and to develop a basic understanding of track and field events through practice and competition.
